the weekend of the baby.

February 14, 2009

So….does anyone have any ideas about what happens when you ask every new parent you know (and some you don’t) if they’ll let you photograph their new little one? It is possible that you could end up photographing 5 new babies in the stretch of 4 days.

It seems that this weekend ended up being the best time for several baby shoots, for various reasons. Here’s the schedule:

Yesterday: 10 day old baby ‘E’
Today: 2 day old baby ‘N’
Tomorrow: my 2 baby cousins: ‘E’ and ‘Z’
Monday: 1 month old baby ‘R’

I’ll be sharing pictures from each of these sessions later this weekend, but for now, here’s a sneak peak at little Miss ‘E’.

Thank you!

Well, the auctions closed today at noon, and we were able to raise $305, which helped bring Ty to a grand total of $655, far surpassing his personal goal of $400. I am so excited to have been a part of this! I talked to Ty on the phone this evening, and he’s excited and thankful in his adorable, 5 year old way! 🙂 What a cutie!

I want to be sure to thank everyone who took time to follow the auctions and support this effort by passing the word along! My blog stats tell me that there were up to 70 visitors on the busiest day! That’s awesome. I know the economy isn’t great right now, and several people emailed to tell me they wished they could bid, but just couldn’t afford it this time. Please know that your attention and support is still appreciated and encouraging to me!

Finally, I want to especially thank my super-cool winners! I’m looking forward to working with each of you! When these shoots take place, I will post my favorite photos here on the blog, and I’ll make a point to let you know you’re looking at an auction winner.

Finally, since I think every post deserves a picture (or 3), I’ll post a few.  (Just as an aside…’B’ & I had the best time picking all these sunflowers in the field by her house and weaving them into her porch swing!  If you haven’t picked wildflowers lately, you should.  When spring arrives, of course.)

the twin shoot.

Anne Geddes. I have always wanted to be able to photograph babies with the beautiful poses you see in Anne Geddes’ work. Mind you, I don’t want to put them in flower pots or on rose petals…I just want to show off the unique look of a newborn in the way she always does. You know, the sweet folds of skin & their softness & the way they curl up to sleep. In the past, I have had a few opportunities to photograph newborns (not too many opportunities really), and I’ve never been able to capture anything close to what I have in mind. So, when I attended the Imaging USA photography convention in Phoenix last month, I was quick to take advantage of the opportunity to take some classes dedicated to the techniques of baby photography. I came home eager to try out what I learned, and today I had my first chance – photographing twins. I learned that I still have much improvement before I am anywhere near the Anne Geddes level, but I was excited to find that the training I received last month has helped!! I have 4 more baby shoots scheduled this month, so I’ll get a ton of practice.

By the way, I got to hear Anne Geddes speak at the Imaging Convention. Pretty cool.

I would like to thank the parents of these lovely twin girls for allowing me to photograph them. I also need to thank my friend Amy for coordinating the shoot. Thanks guys!

So….do you want to see some photos?
